Prevention is always better than cure and in light of this philosophy, ServiceNow’s Madrid release has enhanced its Vulnerability Response capabilities. In case you are upgrading from a previous version of Vulnerability Response, you can commence using the new features at once. All updates for Vulnerability Response are available in the ServiceNow store.

ServiceNow’s Vulnerability Response provides the functionality to ease and automate the challenge of managing vulnerabilities and remediating them across an entire organization’s network. While scanners such as Qualys, Tenable or Rapid 7 can document vulnerabilities they generate a deluge of data. This is where ServiceNow comes in comparing data from the scanners to CIs in the CMDB, then narrowing down the list of vulnerabilities and prioritizing them, which makes it easy for system and network administrators to take action based on severity. ServiceNow’s workflows, automation, orchestration, and threat intelligence make vulnerability response far more efficient and effective.

In case you are updating from version 7.0 to version 8.0, it is essential to install all the plugins listed under App Dependency under Dependencies & Licensing in the ServiceNow store before you install Vulnerability Response.

You can create a customized homepage using Create a new module option. It is important to note that Application Administration is not enabled by default in Vulnerability Response for upgrades, but once enabled it cannot be disabled.

If you have Qualys Vulnerability integration or some other third-party integration installed, you must delete all attachments on your integration data sources. You can learn more about adding and managing attachments here.

Some Key Points from 7.0

Version 7.0 already has powerful functionality and version 8.0 takes it up a notch. Here are some of the top features you should be aware of in version 7.0:

  • Over 40 report widgets based on business objective definitions, trends and forecasts provide powerful Performance Analytics. These reports help you monitor metrics and KPIs at every stage of the vulnerability management lifecycle.
  • A Remediation dashboard is provided for IT operations personnel to execute activities for remediation.
  • The Overview homepage is now a responsive dashboard allowing greater flexibility.

So What’s New?

Here’s a brief look at some of the enhancements in the latest release:

  • Version 8.0 allows you to configure risk score calculators with a much greater level of granularity. These calculators provide the basis for prioritization of vulnerabilities.
  • You can automatically receive access to vulnerability entries and solutions assigned to you specifically, or your group. This is done using the sn_vul.remediation_owner role.

Aside from Vulnerability Response, ServiceNow has a range of modules that can streamline operations and enhance workflows across your entire organization from ITSM to ITOM, SAM and GRC to name just a few. The state-of-the-art cloud platform is a transformative tool for greater value and greater efficiency across your entire company.
